How Hot is Too Hot? New Indoor Heat Related Laws in the US Kick in at 28°C

Here’s some interesting news from across the Pacific, with the State of California ruling a new ‘Indoor Heat Prevention Standard’ effective immediately (July 2024).

Regulating indoor workplaces, such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities & restaurants, it applies when the temperature reaches 82 degrees Fahrenheit,(28° Celsius).

Heat Illness Prevention Plan is part of OH&S whereby… “Employers must take steps to protect workers from heat illness. Some of the requirements include providing water, rest, cool-down areas, and training”

“Additional requirements such as cooling down the work area, implementing work-rest schedules, and providing personal heat-protective equipment apply when the temperature reaches 87 degrees Fahrenheit (30.5° Celsius)”

OZmist footnote: Australia has notoriously hot summers and 28 degrees is not even close to what most of our country experiences over the hotter months. Everyone has the same challenges regarding heat management, and looking for better ways to address it.

For indoor situations, such as factories, packing sheds, manufacturing plants etc OZmist’s Industrial Cooling fans significantly lower temps and help to control these exact issues. Radiant heat, high temperature, dehydration, lack of or hot air flow, low morale, mistakes and accidents, fatigue etc are all symptoms of heat, which take a huge toll and impact.
